Back To School: Skincare Edition

You, or your kids, are diving headfirst into second semester of college or heading back to finish out grade school and that only means one thing. We have officially entered the madness known as back-to-school. Winter break can be a hectic time in life. We aren’t sure what day it is, we have done nothing but consume delicious probably unhealthy food, and any sort of routine we may have established last Fall has more than likely fallen by the wayside. Not to mention, in most cases, an inconsistent skincare routine + stress = breakout. Even though we may anticipate most of these life changes, we all require some time to re-adjust to the “normal” schedule. Tip #1: Have a Routine

We know the jumble of re-establishing your sleep schedule, maintaining your schoolwork and after-school activities is a balancing act. However, you need to prioritize you in all of that too. Starting with your skin. We recommend a cleanser, moisturizer, toner and SPF as a basic outline to use daily. Tip #2: Be Consistent 

This tip is crucial because consistency is key! It can take up to 6 weeks to reap the benefits of your skincare routine. With a carefully selected product line up and an A.M. + P.M. regimen, you are headed in the right direction. Keep this tip front of mind every morning when you are running late or at night when you fall asleep with the light on holding your textbook. Take the time to take care of your skin regardless of circumstance. I know you are worried about your academic grades, but don’t get a “F” in skincare.

Tip #3: Do the Prep Work

Just like when you have a quiz or test on your agenda, skincare requires prep work as well. Prevention prep, that is. One way to keep happy, healthy, acne-free skin is by making sure that, along with your everyday routine, you are also following a few other guidelines. One of those being: wash your sheets! Your poor pillowcase is often harboring excess oil, dirt, dead skin cells, and whatever else is transferred over the course of several sleeps. Washing your pillowcase weekly will prevent that from ending up back on your face. Also, wipe down your phone! There are antibacterial phone wipes you can use around twice a week to keep all those germs from making a home in your skin. Keep this same mentality with anything else that may come in contact with your face! Some examples being: makeup brushes, helmets, baseball caps, etc.

Tip #4: Hydrate

Drink that water! Lots of it, all of it. This assists your body in your fight against acne from the inside out. Keeping your skin hydrated provides your pores with the oxygen it needs to prevent build up (clogs) and fight bacteria. An easy way to tell if you are drinking enough water is by whether or not your lips are chapped! Chapped lips = dehydrated body. Drinking enough water is the GOAT among skincare tips. Water is the most easily accessible tool you have in order to achieve clear skin, use it!

Tip #5: Mask Madness

Similar to March Madness, there are an abundance of mask brands and types fighting to snag your number one spot. It can be overwhelming and tricky trying to narrow down your options to the final four, let alone your overall top pick. You should absolutely have a consistent mask in your routine. However, it is important to realize that not all masks were created equal. Drugstore masks may be fun and easy, but aren’t appropriate for many people with acne-prone or sensitive skin. The most efficient way to find the perfect mask and frequency for your routine is by checking with your esthetician. Mask responsibly.
